Hope Community Project’s construction of the Community Center and Headquarters is underway. We are making significant progress and want to give our readers an update. The following is from our team on the ground in Gonaives and we trust will be a great encouragement.
Hope Project Community Center
and Headquarters Construction Update
March 27, 2019
We are thrilled that despite the current political and economic difficulties in Haiti our project continues to go forward. Several of the local guys working on the project have pulled us aside to express how grateful they are to have work and how much it means to them that we decided to build using labor from within our community. Of course, that doesn’t mean that we don’t run into the occasional issue and we are currently involved in some difficult conversations with OFATMA, the Haitian Government’s insurance agency. We are committed to having the job site insured in case of injury, but are struggling to get things in writing and to ensure our payment into this program is actually protecting our workers.
The build itself continues to progress quickly. It’s amazing to see the changes from week to week. Our third 1st floor platform was poured this week and all of the first level footings and columns are completed. We will begin pouring columns on the second level next week. The barrier wall will be completed on three sides by the end of the week making the site completely enclosed and secure. Our crew on the ground continues to work incredibly hard and are developing a real sense of teamwork, which is exactly what we had hoped to see.
Thank you for your prayers, your interest, and your support. A project like this requires both the team working hard on the ground, as well as, people back home praying for safety and investing the fruits of their labors in our programming and projects. All of HOPE’s projects are focused on investing in and preserving the families in our community and it is for that reason that we have worked so hard to ensure that well over 90% of the dollars spent on labor in this project will be going directly into the pockets of families in our community.
Thank you for your interest in Gonaives families and Hope Community Project. See the drawings and more detail HERE.
